Who am I

hy8a0275-2There is not a lot I can say about myself. I would say ask my mother if it was possible.

I decided to become a filmmaker when I was around 20, during one very boring lesson of extensive maths. I was studying Geologic Engineer at the time and I was feeling I was being murder inside by all the precision and exact science, I wanted to create new things, invent new worlds and think in philosophical way, all do the science got the better of me because now a days I always try to support my statements with facts.  So when I saw that the only discipline I actually was successful was Chemistry and that was because I told my teacher he was getting a lot thiner, I believed was a time to make a change.

Now it sounds funny, but when I told my mother, just after she parked in front of the supermarket, I never hear her screaming so loud and so angry at me, after all she was the one paying for all this. My father was a lot more objective, he look at me in the eyes and said: "Son, you are crazy."

But I took my decision forward and I went to Caldas da Rainha to study in ESAD, an art school quiet unique because they not only teach you the technicalities but they also stimulate your imagination and that for me was the prof that I was going in the right way. After 3 crazy years of fun and a lot of nights without sleep, I wanted to do my internship in New York.

But after a lot of research the school forbidden me and crash my dream. But as a perseverant person that I am, I went anyway. Talk with a lady, that I will protect the name, and manage to assist some classes of one of the most prestigious films schools in New York, and also found an internship in a company called SPT TV.  A company that is responsible of broadcasting a Portuguese channel called SIC to all US and Canada.

After a certain time it was time to go back and fight to become a filmmaker in my own country, but after 5 months of unemployment  I found an internship with a production company called Krypton. A production company that does commercials in Portugal. An amazing experience where I got to work with amazing directors like Augusto Fraga, Fred Oliveira between other, but the person I watched more closely was a producer/owner of the company named Joao Vilela, where in the thousands of games of PES 2010 that the boss challenge me for I had the chance to talk about films, productions issues, dealing with clients and others things that I will never forget and till today they crucial in my way of working. Awesome boss!!

It was during my internship I start working as a freelancer and started filming everything people want me to. And with the amount of work I ending up leaving Krypton and started my own company called Burnay Productions. Where I filmed everything since weddings, parties, corporate films and commercials. That experience made me the dynamic director I am today.

But my dream was still in my head, and in Portugal was not likely I would have a chance to make a film, so I decided to drop everything and pursue my dream in London, and after 4 years in this beautiful city I directed two shorts and one documentary about the consequence of the Jamie Oliver apprentice program. A documentary that show the evolution of the show "Jamie's Kitchen" after fifteen years.

And for now this is who I am... Hopefully improving everyday...
